Abstract

This research reveals a critical attempt at very short story models by the Saudi writer Hassan Ali Al-Batran from his collection of stories tagged with "Wasal and curtains that are not wet with water", in which the writer tried to get out of the stereotype of this new art, which sometimes feels like it is wrapped in a vicious circle distracting artistic identity, it sometimes does not look like a story in the sense of storytelling, nor poetry in the sense of poetry, so it gets closer and closer to forming it in his mind, or just lyrical ramblings that do not rise to the level of art and literature. However, we find the writer in his stories taking care lest a very short story become an absurd experiment that finds a place for itself in literature only in its margin. There are limits and paths applied by the writer to a very short story, especially artistic techniques that rely on many elements, the most important of which is condensation, for example, we see him relying on the actual sentence more than the nominal sentence, because the former contributes to the generation of meanings constantly, the openness of semantics, and the enlivening of the event or situation. The bishop also relies on the method of displacement and relies on the humanization of objects, inanimate objects and animals to say what man is unable to say.  If the story is a presentation of a set of events that represent a social/Association situation, poetry is the poet's own kingdom, and an escalation of the individual situation, then a very short story for the bishop is a focus that brings together an event or situation that would intercept or disturb any human individual.
